THE RECENTLY refurbished Maroma, a Belmond Hotel, which returned last summer, has just announced their new Maroma Spa by Guerlain.

Marking the first Guerlain spa in Latin America, the space is a sanctuary for transformative spirituality. The spa combines wellness and the significance of nature and vitality, bringing its guests unique Guerlain treatments inspired by Mayan culture.

The spa offers therapeutic rituals motivated by natural elements of fire, water, air and earth, as well as ancient methods and the Melipona bee, a signifier of spiritual resonance. The Bee Healing Ritual is a honey-based treatment known for its healing effects and makes use of Guerlain’s Abeille Royale collection.

For those who want to experience a getaway within the walls of Maroma Spa, various treatments inspired by distinguishing destinations will do the trick. The Purifying Cenote is a moisturising, revitalising treatment inspired by the Riviera Maya’s cenotes.

The Talisman of Immunity is a treatment merging the Black Orchid consisting of anti-ageing properties with black obsidian, a Mexican stone which helps one find harmony.

Various other unique treatments include the frequency of buzzing bees, healing vibrations that stimulate the brain, balance energy and promote connection with nature. The Underwater Meditation is an unparalleled experience, made up of gentle movements and singing bowls alongside a Temazcal ritual or a constellation massage which aligns with the cosmos.

The spa also offers yoga and mindfulness workshops, as well as its own apothecary where guests can educate themselves on herbs, prepare them and then integrate them into healing therapies. The Healing Remedies Workshop is interactive and teaches guests how to make balms, scrubs and other products using a copper alembic.

The spa’s interior was designed by Tara Bernerd & Partners and includes nine treatment rooms featuring local design elements, such as geometric shapes and artisanal objects crafted by the design studio in collaboration with local artists. There are landscapes of the jungle and handmade pots containing lush greenery.

The reception area oozes relaxation with its display of hand-painted Saltillo tiles and other pieces, such as carved millwork with traditional Mayan patterns featured on it. Post-treatment, guests can use the steam room or explore scenic gardens surrounded by trees — ideal way to spend some leisure time.

For those interested in the endangered Melipona bee, the hotel offers workshops with a professional Mayan Beekeeper who guides guests through the importance of the species.
